自然農・自然栽培に携わる人は必ず読んでいるといっても過言ではない「わら一本の革命」ですが、何を隠そう私も自然栽培に目覚めたのはこの本に出会ってからです。半世紀以上前に初版が発売されて以来、世界50か国で翻訳されているロングセラー書籍ですが、残念なことに日本においてはあまり有名ではありません。世界中の教養ある人々に強い影響を与えているこの書籍は全世界で高く評価され、英語版をはじめフランス語、スペイン語、中国語、ロシア語など、数十カ国語に翻訳されておりますが、因みに我が家の書庫には原文の日本語版と英語翻訳版があります。アメリカや日本の農政に対する歯に衣を着せない批判が展開されている個所が英語版では割愛されているなど、海外翻訳版に於いては福岡正信さんのインテンションが完全には伝わってはいない可能性もありますが、原文（日本語版）の内容はとても半世紀前に書かれたものとは思えず、現（近）代農業の闇、いや我々の愚かなライフスタイルの矛盾を鋭く突いたものとなっており、何回読み返しても決して色褪せることがありません。アグリボルタイクスを活用し、持続可能なクリーンエネルギーと安全な食料の地産地消による平和で繁栄した地域社会を創るという我々の社是のバックボーンともいえるこの「わら一本の革命」、是非皆さんも読んでみてください。
It is no exaggeration to say that anyone involved in natural farming must have read “The One-Straw Revolution,” but I myself was first awakened to natural farming when I came across this book. Since its first publication more than half a century ago, this long-selling book has been translated in 50 countries around the world, but unfortunately, it is not so famous in Japan. The book, which has had a strong influence on educated people around the world, has been translated into dozens of languages, including English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian etc., and I have the original Japanese version and the English translation in my home library. Although it would be possible that Masanobu Fukuoka’s intentions may not have been fully conveyed in the translated version, as some of his scathing criticisms of the U.S. and Japanese agricultural policies were omitted in the English one, the original Japanese version, however, does not seem to have been written more than half a century ago, and it is a sharp look into the darkness of modern agriculture and the contradictions of our moronic lifestyle, which will never fade away no matter how many times you read it. I can say that this book is the backbone of our company policy of creating peaceful and prosperous local communities through sustainable clean energy and safe food for local production and consumption with utilizing agrivoltaics, so hope you could read it.
