Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.

自由とは安全によって保障されるものではありません。自由とは民が政府の干渉を受けずに生活できる能力によって確立されるものです。そもそも政府が危険のない世界を作ることなど不可能ですし、そのような架空の世界に住みたいなどと妄想しても無駄なことです。「絶対的な安全が価値ある理想である」とグローバリズムを信奉する全体主義者はよく主張しますが、何か恐ろしいことが起こされた後に、時の政府による偽りの安全保障政策が蔓延っているときに於いても私たち自身が自立の精神に基づいて活動することによって自由は意味を持つことになるのです。
自由は与えられるものではありません。誰かがあなたの自由を保障することもありません。自由は自分で掴み取るものであり、掴み取った自由は何があろうとも自分自身で守らなければなりません。
「巧言令色鮮し仁」ということばがありますが、甘言に乗せられると簒奪の対象となり、魂の自由までもが脅かされる羽目に陥ります。依存心を無くすことができれば、何か（誰か）に束縛されることも怯えることもなく、そこに自由の真の価値が生まれるのです。
Freedom is not a given. No one can guarantee your freedom. Freedom is something you must seize for yourself, and once you have it, you must protect it no matter what.
There is a saying, “those who resort to blandishments and fawning smiles are apt to lack compassion“ so if you are taken in by sweet talk, you will become a target of usurpation, and even the freedom of your soul will be threatened. If we can eliminate dependence, we will not be bound or frightened by anything (or anyone), and that is where the true value of freedom is born.
